Fever in children is one of the most common reasons that parents and caregivers seek the advice of healthcare practitioners. As an adaptive immune response against infectious agents, fevers are a beneficial process and a positive indicator of healthy immune function. Because of the risk of serious bacterial illness, it is of utmost importance that naturopathic physicians working with the pediatric population have clear guidelines for treating and referring their pediatric patients. Lavender flower and its extracts have been used, both internally and by olfaction, for centuries as a treatment for anxiety and depression. Modern analytical research has identified the main active constituents of the oil; in vitro and animal studies have begun to elucidate mechanisms of action; and controlled clinical trials in humans now document lavender's efficacy, safety, and dose. Astaxanthin: A Review of the Literature
