In early 2019 the Association of American Medical Colleges released its findings from the fifth annual study on physician supply and demand. They predict a shortage of nearly 122,000 physicians by 2032 with more than half coming from primary care. In this interview, Michelle Simon, PhD, ND, president and CEO of the Institute for Natural Medicine, discusses a potential solution that is gaining traction.

About the Expert

Michelle Simon, PhD, ND, earned her naturopathic doctorate from Bastyr University and her PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She has served on boards for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), the Naturopathic Physicians Research Institute (NPRI), and several advisory boards. Simon served 9 years on the Washington State Health Technology Clinical Committee, was ambassador to the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM), and was recognized as 2018 AANP Physician of the Year.
